I've decided to start back up with my blog after a long hiatus. In the future, I'll likely post about a variety of subjects including (but not limited to): Geology, sports in general, science and technology, philosophy, and probably some religion and politics.
Today's post is about North Carolina's recently passed Amendment 1.
For those of you who don't know, Amendment 1 states that 'Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State"
My question is: why do people find it necessary to ban people who love each other from getting married? What's the point? The "sanctity of marriage" argument makes no sense. If you don't want a same-sex marriage, don't get one.
It's my opinion that we should be socially conscious enough in this country (and as people) to stop discriminating based on sexual orientation. It's pointless. Gay people are still going to fall in love with each other, much like straight people are.
My message to the people who voted for and supported this amendment is as follows: You have no right to attempt to ban people from loving each other. It shows complete and utter bigotry on your part and characterizes you as fearful, naive, and childish. Quit it.

Actually, they do have a right to do that since they were allowed to vote for it. But I get your point.
